Monrovia, Thursday, October 2, 2025- The Rural and Renewable Energy Agency (RREA) is set to break ground on October 4, 2025, in Bakuma Town, Lofa County, for the final phase of its ambitious power generation project.

In a Facebook post Wednesday, October1, 2025, RREA Executive Director Samuel B. Nagbe said the initiative aims to provide electricity to approximately 15,000 homes in Voinjama, Massabolahun, Kolahun, Bolahun, and Foya, as well as all the communities in between these load centers.

According to Executive Director Nagbe, the project involves the installation of 4 MWp Solar Photovoltaic (SPV) Modules and a 9.4 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). This will complement the already installed 1.8 MW diesel generators, fuel storage, and associated transformers.

A city already connected within the designated project region.

The system will also utilize over 500 km of medium and low voltage lines and service drops to homes, forming the Lower Lofa Grid.

The project is made possible through funding from the World Bank and the Government of Liberia. According to recent updates, the initial phase of the project is nearing completion, with the installation of 1.8 MW diesel generators and essential transformers almost finished.

This project is expected to significantly boost electricity access in Lower Lofa County, transforming the lives of residents and contributing to the region’s economic development.

The RREA has already made notable progress in changing the skylines of Voinjama, Lofa County, and this final phase will further solidify the agency’s efforts to provide reliable and sustainable energy solutions.
