Voinjama-Lofa County-Over 25 households and business centers have been taken to court for their failures to pay monthly water bills. Peace and Development Outreach Volunteers (PDOV), an organization in charge of the management of the water system took the noncompliant costumers to court on Thursday, October 9, 2025.

The management of PDOV headed by one Joseph Nyuma said they took the decision based on the refusal of households and businesses to pay their bills despite many follow-ups, something the group said is affecting the operation of the local water supply system.

“Can you imagine some of our customers are owing three months, some five months and more.  Some are owing US$100, some $US200 and $US300”, said the management of PDOV.

PDOV summed the total debts owed by the delinquent costumers to a total of US$10,000, saying every month, they will send delinquent costumers to court. PDOV lamented that the situation is causing them profit lost-leading to their inability to purchase water treatment chemical.

“As I speak to you, some of our sale points are closed, because we don’t have money to pay our workers. Let the people pay our money in court ” said the management of PDOV.

The Liberia Municipal Water Project in Voinjama City, Lofa County, aims to provide safe drinking water to approximately 500 households in Voinjama and surrounding areas. The initiative marked a new era in water management in Voinjama, building on previous efforts to restore pipe born water to the city.

Some of the customers interviewed confirmed owing water bills and have since pleaded for mercy.
