Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County, Friday, October 10, 2025 — The Grand Gedeh County Health Team has ordered an immediate halt to the distribution of food aid after discovering huge quantities of expired vegetable oil being supplied to schools by the international charity, Save the Children.

    The Discovery and Distribution

The discovery was made on Thursday October 9, 2025 by the County Health Team’s Environmental and Occupational Department. According to the department’s head, Mr. Ezekiel Weay Sr., the vegetable oil officially expired in April 2025, yet a significant amount had already been distributed to schools across the county.

This being the case, Mr. Weay strongly cautioned all recipient schools to immediately stop serving the oil to students and to keep all related warehouses sealed until further notice.

    Charity Defends Action

When contacted, Save the Children’s County Food Coordinator, Mr. Lusinee Sheriff, acknowledged that the oil expired in April but defended the distribution.

Mr. Sheriff claimed that a “test conducted in the National Lab” determined the oil was still safe for consumption until December 2025, despite the printed expiration date. He stated that the charity was given the “go ahead to distribute” the expired products based on this lab result.

    Health Team Demands Evidence

The Environmental Team has rejected this justification and has taken firm action by ordering the organization’s Warehouse Manager to immediately halt further distribution of the expired oil.

School Notification: The Grand Gedeh School Authority has been directed to stop using the compromised vegetable oil.

Demand for Proof: Mr. Sheriff has been formally requested to provide the official lab results that authorized the distribution of food past its printed expiration date.

Meanwhile, the situation remains under investigation as health officials work to secure the remaining expired inventory and confirm the safety of the oil already consumed.
