    NEC Liberia Emphasizes Civic and Voter Education in Electoral Reform Consultation

    Monrovia, Liberia-Sunday, November 9, 2025- The National Elections Commission of Liberia (NEC-Liberia) is stressing the importance of civic and voter education as part of its ongoing electoral legal reform process.

    NEC Co-Chairperson Cllr. P. Teplah Reeves highlighted the significance of public participation in electoral activities to strengthen Liberia’s democratic processes.

    Speaking in Cestos, RiverCess County, Cllr. Reeves emphasized that increased public awareness and engagement are crucial for the success of the reform exercise.

    The NEC Co-Chairperson was accompanied by key officials, including Executive Director Mr. Anthony K. Sengbe and Director of Training and Procedures Atty. James B. S. Wallace.

    The ongoing consultative meeting with local stakeholders and community representatives is part of the nationwide Electoral Legal Reform Consultation organized by the NEC with support from its international partners.

    The NEC-Liberia aims to ensure that the voices of Liberians are heard in shaping the country’s electoral process, emphasizing the importance of civic and voter education awareness in the country.

    The NEC strongly believes that increased public participation is crucial for strengthening Liberia’s democratic processes, particularly under the ongoing legal reform exercise.

    As part of public participation in electoral activities, Civic and voter education helps ensure that all Liberians, regardless of gender, disability, or socioeconomic status, can participate in the democratic process.

    Such awareness provide voters with accurate information, civic and voter education enables them to make informed decisions and exercise their constitutional rights.

    The NEC is collaborating with CSOs and International Organizations, with the like of the European Union, UNDP, and IFES, to develop and implement effective civic and voter education programs.

    Prioritizing civic and voter education, the NEC and its partners can foster a more informed and engaged citizenry, ultimately strengthening Liberia’s democratic processes.

    Electoral reform process aims to improve a country’s electoral system, ensuring it is more transparent, inclusive, and credible.

    Liberia’s civil wars highlighted the need for electoral reforms to promote peace, stability, and democratic governance, following the 2015 constitutional referendum that laid the groundwork for further electoral reforms.

    The reform process involves various stakeholders, including government institutions, civil society, and international partners, working together to create a more robust and inclusive electoral framework.

    Placing focus to addressing these areas, Liberia aims to strengthen its democratic institutions and promote credible, transparent, and inclusive elections.
