“A Sound Judicial System Is the Foundation of Truth and Justice” – Says 15th Judicial Circuit Court’s First Assigned Female Judge in River Gee

River Gee County -Tuesday, November 11, 2025-The first female judge ever assigned to the 15th Judicial Circuit Court in River Gee County, Her Honor Judge Nancy F. Sammy, has underscored the indispensable role of the judiciary in sustaining truth, justice, and democracy in Liberia.

Delivering remarks during the official opening of the November term of court’s in Fish-Town, River Gee County, Judge Sammy emphasized that “a sound judicial system is the foundation of truth and justice.” She stressed that the credibility and independence of the courts are vital to maintaining peace, public confidence, and national development.

 “A truly democratic society is measured by how fairly and transparently justice is administered,” Judge Sammy declared. “The courts must remain free from corruption, favoritism, and undue influence, for it is only through an impartial justice system that citizens can trust the rule of law.”

Judge Sammy highlighted that integrity, professionalism, and accountability among judicial workers are essential for strengthening Liberia’s justice system. She urged court staff, lawyers, and law enforcement officers to discharge their duties with honesty and respect for judicial procedures.

She further called on local authorities, community leaders, and residents of River Gee County to work collaboratively with the judiciary in promoting access to justice for all, particularly for women, youth, and vulnerable rural citizens who often face challenges in seeking legal remedies.

Her Honor reaffirmed her commitment to making the 15th Judicial Circuit Court a pillar of fairness and equal justice, ensuring that every citizen regardless of status is given a fair hearing and judgment in accordance with the law.

“When justice is served with fairness, society becomes more peaceful, and public confidence in our institutions grows stronger,” she noted.

However, the 15th judicial circuit court is to adjudicate 7 criminal and 6 civil cases including theft of property

In response to Judge Sammy’s remarks, County Attorney E. Wilkins Nah, who was recently assigned to River Gee, pledged full cooperation with all judicial actors, local authorities, residents, and the joint security apparatus in the county.

He assured that his office would work diligently to uphold the rule of law and support the judiciary in ensuring timely and transparent prosecution of cases.

Also speaking, River Gee County Labor Commissioner Mr. Solo Teah encouraged judiciary staff to put the interest of the ordinary Liberian above all else. He reminded them that the justice system exists not for personal enrichment, but to uphold human dignity and the sanctity of life.

“The judiciary is not a place for making money,” Commissioner Teah said. “It is where people come to seek justice and where decisions made can determine the destiny of a person’s life.”

Meanwhile, River Gee County Superintendent Milk Tarpeh Swengbe extended a warm welcome to all newly assigned judicial officials, including judges, magistrates, and the county attorney. He urged them to take a strong stance against the growing problem of illegal drugs in the county and to ensure that justice is delivered impartially.

Superintendent Swengbe also cautioned against wrongful prosecutions, stressing that the courts must serve the interest of the people rather than personal or political agendas.

Ordinary residents who attended the court’s opening ceremony expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Justice and the Supreme Court of Liberia, particularly Chief Justice for appointing a female judge to serve in River Gee County for the first time.

They described Judge Sammy’s appointment as a “milestone in women’s empowerment” and a “symbol of progress toward gender equality within the judiciary.”

Many community members said her presence brings renewed hope for judicial transparency, fairness, and public trust in River Gee County.
