Voinjama City, Lofa County –Monday,Nov. 17,2025–The Lofa United Blind Association (LUBA) in Voinjama city is providing braille education (BE) as well as skill education for visually impaired persons in the county amid resource challenges in catering to the learning needs of their students.

According to the Principal of the School of the Blind, Mr. James Jallah, the Braille Education and skills training school was established in 2025 for the sole purpose of providing sound education but also skill enhancement opportunities for the  for visually impaired persons in society desirous of obtaining quality education. Also, it is meant for blind individuals attending different schools who find it difficult to see and understand the normal lessons presented in the classroom.

Mr. Jallah said, currently there are about 9 students who are attending the school and residing on the dormitory which was built by Lofa County Senator, Hon. Momoh T. Cyrus.

He added that students, attending the school lacked several learning tools, including additional braille, chairs, mattresses and food for dormitory students.

For now, students attending the Lofa School of the Blind are mainly in the elementary session.

Meanwhile, the school authority is calling on the Government of Liberia as well as nongovernment organizations and personalities to kindly assist the institution with appropriate logistics including braille as strives to help the visually impaired in acquiring befitting education and skills that will otherwise ,capacitate them in meaningfully contributing to themselves but also, society at large.

He mentioned that though very relevant and timely, the School of the Blind is presently not receiving any technical or financial support and called on well–intentioned institutions and institutions to kindly contribute in both material and financial.
