River Gee County-Nov. 18, 2025-The River Gee Chapter of the National Civil Society Council of Liberia (CSCL) and scores of community stakeholders, have issued a strong vote of no confidence in the newly assigned County Attorney, Cllr. E. Wilkins Nah following his secret transfer to the county.

On September 8, 2025, President Joseph Nyumah Boakai appointed Cllr. Nah as County Attorney of Grand Gedeh County. One and the half month after, Cllr Nah has surfaced in River Gee as County Attorney amidst his alleged involvement in the illegal sale of 500 acres of forestland in Grand Gedeh.

His new assignment in River Gee has sparked huge controversy among civil society actors and other prominent community members, who have issued 3 counts against him.

The CSO council says it is amazed by the swapping of Cllr. Nah from Grand Gedeh to River Gee, terming his deployment as a misplacement.

The Council presented 3 counts to Superintendent Mike T. Swengbe in a formal communication. The group outlined the past behaviors of Cllr. Nah in places he previously served, including Bong and Grand Counties-raising concerns about his suitability for the prosecutorial leadership in River Gee.

The Council cited illegal land transaction in Grand Gedeh County, in which Cllr. Nah admitted on public radio. The group through its head, Abu M. Diallo argues that the transaction violated established legal procedures, erode public trust and raised significant ethical concerns about Cllr. Nah.

“This alleged land deal undermined legal protocols and created tensions among community members in Grand Gedeh and Liberia as at large. Such actions cannot be ignored when evaluating a person’s fitness to serve as County Attorney,” Diallo said.

The petition further alleged that while serving as SGBV Prosecutor in 2012 in Bong County, Cllr. Nah reportedly interfered with and compromised multiple Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Cases, allegation this news outlet has not independently verified.

These alleged actions, the Council claims, denied survivors justice and caused lasting damage to public confidence in the prosecutorial system.

The group also said it strongly opposes the “irregular” and “unlawful” assignment of Cllr. Nah to River Gee County, referencing President Joseph Nyumah Boakai’s appointment of September 8, 2025 and the subsequent transfer of Cllr. Nah to River Gee without official communication from the President.

This irregular placement, they group warn, raises red flags about administrative transparency and undermines confidence in the justice system’s chain of command.

“The integrity of our justice sector is at stake. We believe that Cllr. Nah’s presence compromises the values of fairness, transparency, and professional conduct expected of a County Attorney”, the group said.

The civil society leaders stressed that their position is rooted not in personal hostility but in a commitment to good governance, accountability, and the protection of vulnerable groups, especially SGBV survivors who depend on a credible justice apparatus.

Meanwhile, Superintendent Mike Tarpeh Swengbe has assured the civil society group that he will consult relevant authorities and stakeholders over the next two to three weeks before issuing an official response.

He encouraged the CSOs, as well as youth groups and community residents to remain calm and maintain peaceful dialogue. “I commend your peaceful approach. I urge you to remain patient while we review your concerns. Let us continue to address these issues constructively and avoid actions that could lead to unrest.” Supt. Swengbe concluded.

The group is, however, calling on the Ministry of Justice and national authorities to immediately recall what they termed as a misplaced appointment of Cllr. Nah.  The Ministry of Justice has not yet commented on the matter.
