Sawken Town, Grand Kru County–Friday, Nov. 28, 2025–The Ministry of Education, through the Grand Kru County School System, has officially begun the construction of three new classrooms and two administrative offices at the Sawken Elementary School in Electoral District #1, Grand Kru County.

The long-awaited project comes after years of appeals from the school’s administration and community members, who repeatedly decried the dilapidated and unsafe condition of the existing structures.

For several academic years, the Sawken public school operated under harsh conditions, with leaking roofs, and a lack of proper office facilities for administrators and teachers.

Speaking to reporters during the groundbreaking exercise, Grand Kru County Education Officer, Josiah Sloh Negba, confirmed that the initiative is part of government ongoing effort to improve learning environments across the country.

“This project is the result of a ten-thousand-US-dollar allotment made to the school through the Legislative Adjustment,” Negba disclosed.

Residents of Sawken in a meeting organized by the PTA regarding Ministry of Education decision to fund the expansion of their school.

“For too long, our children and teachers in Sawken have struggled in an environment that was not conducive for learning. We are grateful that this intervention is now underway.”

Josiah Sloh Negba emphasized that the new classrooms will help reduce congestion and provide a safer, more comfortable space for students.

He added that the inclusion of two offices is intended to support better supervision, records management, and administrative efficiency.

The Grand Kru County Education Officer expressed gratitude to Grand Kru County’s lawmakers for their support in ensuring the project became a reality.

    > “We want to extend our profound thanks to Senator Albert Tugbe Chie and Senator Numene T.H. Bartekwa for prioritizing education and ensuring that resources reach the schools that need them most,” he said.

“Their intervention through the Legislative Adjustment is a clear demonstration of their commitment to education in Grand Kru County.”

Residents of Sawken and surrounding towns have welcomed the project, noting that it will lift a major burden off families and improve students’ academic performance.

The Sawken public school has played a crucial role in educating children within the district, but its condition had become unbearable, posing risks to both staff and students.

The construction work, which has already begun, is expected to significantly transform the learning atmosphere at Sawken Elementary School. Upon completion, the new facilities are anticipated to serve hundreds of students and contribute to the broader educational development goals of the county and the Ministry of Education.
