Kpoe Town, Bong County |Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2025| As the Dry Season begins, citizens of Kpoe Town, In Electoral District #2, Bong County have alarmed over the lack of safe drinking water.

Kpoe Town is located in Bong Electoral District #2, which has over 500 residents currently depending on a single hand pump that normally goes dry during the dry season.

In an interview with Mr. Cooper Kermue, a resident of the town on December 12, 2025, he indicated that the only hand pump which is currently serving citizens of the town malfunctioned few months ago and is yet to be repaired.

Thus, residents are fetching water from nearby creeks and open well for washing, cooking and drinking.

Mr. Kermue emphasized that, the only hand pump in the town can’t serve everyone, due to the growing population.

Kermue, a son of Kpoe Town however told Rural Reporters News Network that, since the erection of the only hand pump in the town, which served them regularly in the rainy season, has spent more than three years and is calling for non-governmental organizations, the Government of Liberia to come to their aid by erecting another hand pump, which will prevent them from drinking contaminated water during the Dry Season.

He disclosed to this platform that, many of the residents normally come down with illness, due to the lack of potable drinking water; something that is posing threat to their livelihood, especially the children.

In another development, Mr. Cooper Kermue also voiced out about the lack of health facility in the town.

Mr. Cooper Kermue,a resident of Kpoe Town,Bong County.

He said they normally transport pregnant women and patients to the elsewhere and other nearby towns to seek medication, and wants government to urgently intervene by possibly constructing a modern clinic in their town to be able to attend to the 500 inhabitants.

We are suffering here due to lack of development and during the Dry Season as it is now, the only hand pump goes dry; we can be forced to fetch our drinking water from the nearby creeks and wells.

“The same for the unavailability of health facility for a little over 500 inhabitants; a situation which has become quite frustrating as every time a person gets sick especially a pregnant woman, that person has to be transported to Gbarnga or Phebe for medication,” Mr. Cooper Kermue mentioned.

He, however used the medium to call on nongovernmental organizations and the Government of Liberia to see reason and cater to some of their needs, by erecting hand pump and health facility in the town; both of which the town stands in dire need.
