Barclayville City, Grand Kru County | Dec. 21, 2025 |Police in Grand Kru County have launched an investigation into an alleged rape incident reported in Sorrowken, Trembo Administrative District, involving a 42-year-old farmer and a 19-year-old female resident of the community.
Information gathered indicates that on December 18, 2025, at about 1845 hours, the Behwan Police Depot received a mobile phone call from Community Watch Forum officer Lawrence Nyemah, alerting police to an alleged sexual assault that had reportedly occurred earlier in the day.
The suspect, identified as Peter Weah, Grebo by tribe, a Liberian national and resident of Sorrowken, was subsequently arrested by a team of Liberia National Police (LNP) officers led by Patrolman Allison M. Dahn and taken into custody for investigation.
According to police records, the alleged victim, Marthaline Toe, 19, told investigators that the accused entered her room at approximately 1200 hours while she was asleep and allegedly forcibly had sexual intercourse with her.
She further claimed that the suspect covered her mouth with a piece of cloth to prevent her from calling for help.
The victim stated that her cries were heard by her sister, Rachel Toe, who reportedly entered the room and allegedly found both individuals naked. Rachel Toe reportedly questioned what was happening, at which point the victim accused Peter Weah of raping her.
However, the accused has categorically denied the allegation and provided a different account of events.
In his statement to police, Peter Weah claimed that at about 1200 hours on the same day, he visited the victim’s residence to see Norah Nah, whom he described as the victim’s sister-in-law, and that he met the victim’s mother and other individuals at the house during that visit.
He further alleged that after leaving the residence, he went to the bush and later returned to the community between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m. According to the suspect, he went back to the victim’s house during that time to collect firewood or fire, at which point the victim’s mother, Susanna Toe, accused him of having sexual intercourse with her daughter, leading to a confrontation.
The accused also raised a controversial claim during questioning, alleging that the victim is mentally ill, a statement police have not independently confirmed as of the time of this report.
Investigators are now working to reconcile conflicting timelines, verify the presence or absence of witnesses during the alleged time of the incident, and determine whether medical findings will corroborate either account.
Police sources say the delay between the alleged time of the incident (1200 hours) and the report to authorities (1845 hours) is also being examined as part of the investigation.
Based on preliminary findings, the victim has been referred to a local health facility for medical examination and treatment, while the suspect remains in police custody pending the outcome of the investigation and possible court proceedings.
Police have not yet disclosed whether forensic evidence has been collected or if additional witnesses will be invited for questioning.
Authorities emphasize that the investigation remains ongoing, and all parties are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
