    Monrovia, Liberia I January 5, 2026 I The Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) is the government agency responsible for regulating and overseeing the telecommunications sector in Liberia.

    Established to promote the development of a modern, reliable, and accessible telecommunications infrastructure, LTA plays a crucial role in shaping Liberia’s digital landscape.

    The LTA in 2025, has made significant strides, driving the country’s digital transformation and improving internet accessibility nationwide.

    CONNECTING SCHOOLS TO THE INTERNET:

    LTA partnered with Starlink Liberia LLC to provide high-speed satellite internet to 156 public senior high schools across the country, enhancing digital learning and bridging the digital divide. The donation, valued at over $160,000, includes internet kits, routers, and a one-year data subscription.

    This partnership connects rural schools to the internet, giving students equal access to online resources and opportunities. In Liberia and with the authority moves, students can now access online educational content, research, and digital tools, improving their learning experience.

    As a result of such initiative, students are now equipped with digital skills, prepares them for a tech-driven future, providing total balance of digitally literate students who will now contribute to Liberia’s economic growth and development.

    In keeping with the Unity Party ARREST Agenda of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, the LTA partnership shows the government’s commitment to improving education and connectivity.

    The donation’s value $160,000 and more and scope 156 schools, make it a significant investment in Liberia’s future.

    FREE ROAMING AGREEMENT UNDER THE LTA:

    Liberia, Sierra Leone, and The Gambia signed a landmark agreement allowing users to roam freely without additional charges, making it easier for citizens to stay connected. Under this initiative, a satellite internet constellation was launched in Liberia in January 2025, revolutionizing internet access and connectivity. The service offers subscriptions priced at $40-50 per month, with equipment sold at $390.

    The Roaming Agreement was a game-changer for West Africa, a deal Liberia form part of to eliminate roaming charges, making it easier for citizens to stay connected while traveling across these countries.

    This agreement aligns with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) goal to promote regional integration, economic cooperation, and digital connectivity. The LTA and its regional counterparts are working with mobile network operators to ensure smooth implementation, with potential expansion across all ECOWAS member states moving forward.

    LTA New HEADQUARTERS IN LIBERIA:

    The Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) is getting a new headquarters in Shefflin Township, Margibi County, valued at $4.6 million. This state-of-the-art building will feature biometric security systems, a canteen, a leisure exercise area, and a conference hall with a capacity of 150-200 people.

    The project, initially expected to be completed soon, faced delays due to a land dispute with the Duazon community. The community had provided the land for military use, but the LTA’s plans for commercial development sparked resistance. The LTA is working to resolve the issue and complete the project.

    The new headquarters will serve as the central hub for LTA, overseeing Liberia’s telecommunications sector and promoting digital transformation. Acting Chairperson Abdullah L. Kamara emphasized the project’s significance, stating it will position Liberia as a regional leader in technology and telecommunications.

    LTA DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION AGENDA:

    LTA launched a Five-Year Strategy Plan (2024-2029), focusing on institutional reform, creating an enabling environment, and advancing policies for digital innovation and adoption.

    Liberia’s digital transformation agenda is a comprehensive plan to modernize the country’s telecommunications sector and promote digital inclusion.

    The Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) is leading the charge, focusing on key areas like Infrastructure Development, Building national and metro fiber networks, ensuring affordable broadband, and expanding internet access to underserved areas. Digital Governance, Establishing e-government platforms, promoting digital literacy, and enhancing cybersecurity measures. Regulatory Framework, aims at implementing policies to foster competition, innovation, and consumer protection. As well Digital Economy, encouraging e-commerce, open data initiatives, and local innovation.

    The LTA has introduced regulations to promote fair competition, innovation, and consumer welfare, including numbering resources and wholesale access to telecom networks for Value-Added Services (VAS).

    The government is also working with Huawei to implement the Digital Village model, aiming to expand internet access and digital services to rural areas.

    The Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) has made significant strides in 2025, driving the country’s digital transformation and improving internet accessibility.

    These achievements demonstrate LTA’s dedication to enhancing Liberia’s digital landscape and promoting economic growth.
