‎Zwedru City, Grand Gedeh County |‎January 9, 2026‎ |Residents of Grand Gedeh’s capital, Zwedru are pleading with the City Council to remove roaming cattle from the streets, adding the cattle are destroying private properties. The residents have threatened mass slaughter if the livestock are not relocated to an ideal area.

‎The call to remove the cattle intensified during Thursday’s broadcast of The ‘State Podium’, a regular and popular called–in radio show. Callers described the situation as alarming, noting that the city has been overrun by animals that are turning residential neighborhoods into grazing grounds and destroying personal properties.

‎The call for action is predicated on situation involving a a 53-year-old widow, Adama Kamara who was on Sunday, December 21, 2025, hit by a speeding cow. According to Kamara, the animal, charged at high speed, strike her from behind and knock her to the ground.

‎The attack, according to onlookers, did not end there; the animal reportedly caused harm to her genital organ.

    ‎An “Old-Age” Crisis Ignored

‎Mr. Emmanuel S. Doe, a prominent local voice, characterized the livestock infestation as a chronic failure of governance.

‎”This is an old-age problem that we will no longer tolerate,” Doe declared. “We are finished with dialogue that leads to nowhere while cows take over our city limits.”

    ‎Demands for Executive Action

‎The frustrated populace is now turning its sights on the Zwedru City Corporation. Citizens are demanding that City Mayor Madam Retha Massaquoi Kai summon cattle owners for a possible a relocation.

‎The message from the public is clear: livestock must be moved outside city limits effectively to save the growing population of the city.

‎The rhetoric has shifted from grievance to a direct threat of civil disobedience. Protesters have signaled plans to march on the City Corporation office to force a resolution.

‎‎‎As of press time, the City Mayor’s office has not released a formal strategy to de-escalate the looming confrontation between property owners and cattle farmers.
