Grand Kru, Buah Worpluken| January 14, 2026 | A 43-year-old man, identified as James Doe, has been arrested by the Community Watch Forum (CWF) commander in Buah Worpluken for the alleged sexual abuse of a 50-year-old woman, Oretha Doe, both Grebo by tribe and residents of the community.

According to information gathered, the incident reportedly occurred while the victim was under the influence of alcohol.

During a preliminary police investigation, James Doe was formally informed of his rights but denied all allegations leveled against him.

Following the report, a team of the Liberia National Police (LNP) led by Inspector Darpoe G. Karweah responded to the scene.

Family members of the victim told police that Oretha Doe was found lying helpless in a room.

Upon being interviewed, the victim stated that after waking up during the night, she realized she was intoxicated and alleged that the suspect took advantage of her and sexually abused her.

The victim’s 22-year-old son, Jackson Doe, also a resident of Buah Worpluken, told police that he allegedly caught the suspect in the act with his mother.

He said he grabbed the suspect by the hand, raised an alarm, and community members intervened, leading to the suspect’s arrest.

Police advised the victim’s family to take her to a medical facility for examination and treatment.

However, upon returning to the police station, officers reportedly found the suspect hanging unconscious at the cell window, with his shirt tied around his neck in an apparent suicide attempt.

The suspect was immediately attended to, and police say an investigation is ongoing into both the alleged sexual abuse and the circumstances surrounding the incident at the police cell.

Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and allow the law to take its full course.
