MONROVIA, January 20, 2026- The Liberia National Infrastructure Conference is underway in Ganta, Nimba County, where government officials, development partners, and key stakeholders had gathered to discuss the country’s infrastructure challenges.

The five-day conference, themed “Rebranding and Rebuilding Through Reconstruction,” aims to outline pathways for sustainable development and bridge the gap between urban and rural communities.

President Joseph Nyumah Boakai emphasized the need for honest national dialogue at the opening of the conference, stressing that the goal is to build infrastructure that improves lives, restores dignity, and meets future needs.

“We’re not just repairing what’s broken, but building for the future,” he said.

For his part, UNDP Liberia Resident Representative Aliou Dia highlighted the organization’s vision of infrastructure as a foundation for dignity, resilience, and long-term development.

He underscored the urgency of climate-resilient infrastructure, given Liberia’s exposure to floods, sea-level rise, coastal erosion, and extreme weather.

The conference will explore practical solutions across roads, energy, water and sanitation, ICT, urban planning, and climate resilience.

Dia noted that UNDP is supporting climate-informed planning, disaster-risk integration, and nature-based solutions, leveraging key national tools such as Liberia’s NDCs 3.0 and the Natural Capital Atlas.
