Barclayville, Grand Kru County | January 30, 2026 | Residents of rural and hard-to-reach communities across Grand Kru County have expressed renewed hope following the arrival of a large consignment of medical supplies donated by Grand Kru County Senator Numene T. H. Bartekwa.
For years, many villages in the county have struggled with limited access to essential medicines, inadequate equipment, and long distances to functioning health facilities. Community members say the newly arrived supplies could ease these challenges if properly distributed.
The donation, made through the Senator’s home office, was officially handed over on Thursday at the Grand Kru County Health Team compound in Barclayville in the presence of county health authorities and representatives of the Senator’s office.
The consignment includes a 40-foot container loaded with assorted medical supplies, comprising essential equipment, consumables, and medical materials intended to strengthen clinics, health posts, and hospitals across the county—particularly in rural areas.
In many villages, residents often travel several hours by foot or canoe to reach the nearest clinic, only to be told that medicines are unavailable.
“Sometimes we carry our sick people far, and when we reach, there is no medicine,” a resident from a rural district said. “If these supplies reach the clinics in the villages, it will save lives.”

Speaking during the handover ceremony on behalf of the Senator, Edwin Teahboso Kajlah reaffirmed the Senator’s commitment to improving healthcare access for all citizens. “Healthcare is a fundamental human right, and no citizen—regardless of location or economic status—should be denied access to essential medical services,” he stated.
Health authorities assured rural residents that the supplies would be distributed equitably.
According to the County Health Team, “priority will be given to health facilities serving high-need and hard-to-reach communities.”
Rural leaders and community members welcomed the assurance but stressed the importance of transparency and timely distribution.
“What we want is simple—medicine in our clinics and better treatment for our people,” one community leader noted. “That is what will show real development.”
The medical supplies are expected to reduce shortages, strengthen rural health facilities, and improve service delivery across Grand Kru County.
