Bolahun Holy Cross Mission is set to host a historic Episcopal Church Convention in March 2026. The Bolahun Holy Mission was established by the white missionaries in 1922 for educational, health and religious purposes. Since 1922, the town of Bolahun has served as a credo of western civilization, providing health, educational and religious needs of the people of Lofa County and Liberia.

In March this year, the town through the St. Mary Episcopal Church will host a church convention organized by the Episcopal Church of Liberia. Preparations for the convention began in June last year, with renovation of the church edifice, construction of new buildings and cleaning up exercise.

The convention will take place at the newly constructed training/convention hall in Bolahun, which is nearing completion. The Project Engineer overseeing the project, James Tarnue Dukuly, disclosed that the project was initiated between June of last year, but experienced little delay due to logistical and material challenges.

According to him, major construction work effectively began in December 2025. Despite these delays, Engineer Dukuly expressed confidence that the facility will be completed and ready for use ahead of the scheduled convention in March 2026, adding, significant progress has already been made.

He said electrical installations are almost complete, while the tiling of bathrooms and toilet facilities has been fully finalized. He further assured that within the next twenty working days, the entire convention hall will be completed and well-finished to meet required standards.

Dukuly also revealed that renovation works are not only limited to the convention hall. The main St. Mary Episcopal Church building is undergoing extensive refurbishment, including the replacement of ceiling tiles, painting, and upgrade of furniture to improve the overall appearance of the church.

Addressing concerns about challenges faced during construction, Dukuly cited the scarcity of building materials in the project community as a major obstacle. He, however, noted that arrangements have been made with a transporter to deliver the remaining materials to ensure timely completion of the project.

Members of the church community have expressed strong commitment toward the success of the upcoming convention. Thomas Foday, a member of the youth leadership of the St. Mary Church and Bolahun Town, stated that preparations are in full swing and will continue through February. He revealed that young people, alongside other members of the St. Mary Church, are working collectively to ensure the convention is successful.

Thomas noted that the young people are actively engaged in organizing lodging, learning programs, and other key activities aimed at uplifting the faith and positively impacting the wider community.

The upcoming convention will be the second historic Episcopal Church convention held in post-war Bolahun. The event is expected to attract a large gathering of members of the Episcopal Church from across Liberia and abroad, marking a significant milestone for both the church and the Bolahun community.
