Gbaryama Town, Gbarpolu County |February 22, 2026 |The Realise Cassava Farm Project, a 35-acre initiative aimed at boosting food security and economic growth in Gbaryama Town in Bopolu District, is facing a major setback.
Elephants have destroyed almost half of the cassava crop, prompting citizens to call for urgent help from the Forestry Development Authority (FDA) and partners.
The project, launched to improve livelihoods and create jobs, is now seeking support to mitigate human-wildlife conflict.
Residents are requesting skills training to deter elephants and financial aid to recover losses.
Elephants are protected under Liberia’s Wildlife and Conservation law.
Recently, 8 people were fined US$500 jointly by the Bopolu City Magisterial Court for killing and selling an elephant in SANDO VILLAGE, near Gbaryama town.
The FDA is urged to intervene and support the farmers.
