‎Gbaryama Town, Gbarpolu County |February 22, 2026 |The Realise Cassava Farm Project, a 35-acre initiative aimed at boosting food security and economic growth in Gbaryama Town in Bopolu District, is facing a major setback.

‎Elephants have destroyed almost half of the cassava crop, prompting citizens to call for urgent help from the Forestry Development Authority (FDA) and partners.

‎The project, launched to improve livelihoods and create jobs, is now seeking support to mitigate human-wildlife conflict.

‎Residents are requesting skills training to deter elephants and financial aid to recover losses.

‎Elephants are protected under Liberia’s Wildlife and Conservation law.

‎Recently, 8 people were fined US$500 jointly by the Bopolu City Magisterial Court for killing and selling an elephant in SANDO VILLAGE, near Gbaryama town.

‎The FDA is urged to intervene and support the farmers.

‎Note: This a developing story. Therefore, we will provide updates as this story develops.
