‎Bopolu City, Gbarpolu County | February 28, 2026 | The Liberia National Red Cross Society (LNRCS) has officially launched the Sustainable Communities Engaged for Change (SUCEC) project in Gbarpolu County.

‎The project, funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), aims to strengthen community and civil society leadership in six counties, including Gbarpolu, from 2025 to 2028.

Speaking at the launch event on February 25, 2026, National Project Officer Michael B. Paye emphasized that SUCEC promotes inclusive civic space and locally-led solutions to improve health, water, sanitation, and hygiene, while enhancing livelihoods through collaboration and sustainable approaches.

‎‎He said that the project will focus on building the capacity of the Red Cross team in Gbarpolu County this 2026, with plans to engage communities in Gbarma, Bokomu, and Henry Town branches in 2027.

‎‎A Project Advisory Group (PAG) has been established to support community engagement and accountability.

‎‎Project Consultant Abdullah Adam of the Swedish Red Cross encouraged the Gbarpolu team to take ownership of the project.

‎During the event, he said that it could lead to financial sustainability and community empowerment.

‎During the official launching event, stakeholders, including government officials and partners, pledged their support for the project.

‎Meanwhile, Gbarpolu County Administrative Officer James Kpoto Scott welcomed the project, urging the Red Cross to be active in recruiting members and sharing information to enhance partnership and local support.‎

‎The Gbarpolu County Red Cross Field Officer Kerkula Zor and Governance Chairman Daniel Kollie thanked stakeholders for their support and promised to reactivate Red Cross activities across Gbarpolu.
