Voinjama City, Lofa County |March 9, 2026| The Ministry of Gender and Children Protection through its Lofa County office on Sunday, March 8, 2026, celebrated the International Women’s Day with raising awareness about critical issues affecting women and girls across the County.
The International Women’s Day celebration in Lofa County started with radio talk shows where the Gender Ministry took on different radio platforms to highlight issues affecting women and girls in the community while proffering various solutions and the urgent attention needed to translate policy into action regarding gender related violence, and the issue of women economic empowerment among others.
According to Lofa County Gender Coordinator Madam Wilfred Willie, several issues affecting women including domestic violence, lack of quality education, lack of economic opportunity amongst others were adequately highlighted and discussed by women, girls and the general public who not only graced the occasion but similarly participated both in the indoor program as well as fanfare and jubilations that accompanied the day.
The County Gender Coordinator Winifred Willie, emphasized the importance of investing in women and girls; highlighting their crucial role in national development.
This milestone engagement in Voinjama demonstrates the Ministry’s commitment to reaching communities across Lofa and promoting gender equality. By engaging with local communities, the Ministry aims to create a ripple effect, inspiring individuals to support and empower women and girls.
This year International Women’s Day celebration was held under the theme, “Given to Gain” and the event aligns with the global theme Give to Gain; emphasizing the benefits of investing in women for sustainable progress and development. As Liberia continues to rebuild and grow, the empowerment of women remains a critical component of the country’s advancement.
Participants for this year International Women’s Day celebration where women from the Disabled community, various women groupings, girls’ organizations and the student community in Voinjama city.
The International Women’s Day is an annual event that is celebrated globally by stakeholders across the globe and the IWD, recognizes and highlight women issues, their challenges and struggles and serves as a global platform aimed at addressing said issues as well as elevate women socioeconomic livelihood.
