Grand Kru County, Liberia |March 10, 2026| Police in Grand Kru County have arrested a 36-year-old woman in connection with the death of a Ghanaian national following a reported misunderstanding in Bolloh Klaydeeper Town.
The suspect, Oretha Gmah, a Liberian of Grebo descent and resident of Bolloh Klaydeeper, was turned over to the Liberia National Police at the Buah Geeken Police Station on Monday, March 9, 2026, at about 1:00 p.m.
According to an initial police report, the suspect was brought to authorities by one Ali Konateh, 46; a Kru man and resident of Bolloh Klaydeeper Town.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday, March 8, 2026, around 12:30 p.m., when the suspect allegedly got into a misunderstanding with Khafi Baidoo Jr., a 40-year-old Ghanaian national who resided at the same address.
Police said the dispute escalated into a heated exchange of words between the two individuals. During the confrontation, the victim reportedly fell to the ground. He was immediately rushed to the Buah Geeken Health Center for medical attention and later referred to the River Gee County Health Center due to his condition.
However, while en route to River Gee, relatives reportedly noticed that Baidoo was unresponsive and returned to Buah Geeken Health Center, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
During preliminary police questioning, suspect Oretha Gmah was informed of her constitutional rights. She reportedly told investigators that the misunderstanding began after the victim allegedly placed her clothes together with children’s clothing, leading to an argument between them.
Gmah further explained to police that the victim, who she described as her sister’s boyfriend, began kicking on her door and demanding that she leave the house during the altercation. She said she later left the house to sit with a friend.
According to her statement, when she returned, the victim was asleep but later woke up and appeared to be walking as if he was intoxicated before falling to the ground. She added that the victim’s brother later assisted in taking him to the hospital due to his worsening condition.
Police said the suspect has been detained at the Buah Geeken Police Station as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding Baidoo’s death.
Meanwhile, the remains of the deceased have been taken by family members to a funeral home in Buah Geeken pending further investigation.
