‎Zwedru City, Grand Gedeh County |March 24, 2026 | A sweeping investigative report released by Rural Reporters online has cast a somber light on the integrity of the Grand Gedeh County Council; raising urgent questions regarding leadership qualifications and the stewardship of public funds.

‎The report suggests a deepening administrative crisis that threatens to derail the steep progress cum development being made by Grand Gedeh County.

    ‎Concerns Over Leadership Qualifications

‎The investigation reveals a startling lack of academic credentials within the council’s leadership. Records indicate that seven to eight council members, including the Chairperson, possess only high school diplomas or are dropouts from untraceable institutions.

‎This educational deficit is cited as a primary factor in the council’s inability to navigate complex administrative proceedings, allegedly leading to the approval of “blank checks” for local government operations without proper scrutiny and documentation.

    ‎The “Kickback” Conflict

‎A significant rift has formed between the County Council and the local government, primarily driven by disputes over “kickbacks” and operational funds.

Financial Standoff: The local government has reportedly halted disbursements to the council, citing a total lack of accountability for funds received during the 2024 and 2025 budget years.

‎Systemic Extortion: The report claims that development is being stifled by persistent demands from council members for personal percentages from government allocations before projects can proceed.

    ‎Barriers to Regional Development

‎That said, RRNN News Online identified six critical pillars contributing to the stagnation of Grand Gedeh County:

‎Issue and Impact on the County

‎Academic Deficiency: Leads to poor decision-making and uncoordinated public statements.

‎Selfish Interest: Personal gain is consistently prioritized over infrastructure and social services.

‎Fiscal Irresponsibility: A refusal to account for previous budget cycles has frozen current funding.

‎Stagnant Innovation: The leadership has failed to seek external partnerships beyond government funding.

‎Lack of Inclusion: The council is accused of ignoring citizen input on critical growth initiatives.‎

‎”The collective interest of Grand Gedeians is being traded for immediate personal gratification,” the report concludes, noting that the council’s failure to solicit citizen views has left the people hurting and disconnected from the governance process.

‎As the county faces this administrative crossroads, the call for transparency and educational reform within the council grows louder. The eyes of the nation now turn toward the local government to see how these allegations of fiscal misconduct will be timely and impartially addressed.
