Monrovia, Liberia |March 30, 2026| The International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) team visited Nimba University campus today for a lively public consultation with students on the draft IMEI regulation.

Led by Senior Regulatory Analyst Kwatama Bettie, the team shared key details about the proposed regulations, listened to students’ views, and explored how better IMEI management can protect mobile users and boost telecom services in Liberia.

The consultation aimed to gather feedback from students on the proposed IMEI regulations, which include creating a Central Identification Registry to store unique 15-digit IMEI numbers assigned to every mobile device.

This registry will help curb mobile phone theft and eliminate telecommunications equipment fraud.

During the consultation, students actively participated in the discussion, sharing their ideas and concerns about the proposed regulations.

The IMEI team encouraged students to dial *#06# to retrieve their phone’s IMEI number and keep it secure.

The Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) has been conducting nationwide public consultations on the proposed IMEI regulations to ensure that all stakeholders, including students, are informed and involved in the process.

The proposed IMEI regulations aim to create a Central Identification Registry to store unique 15-digit IMEI numbers, curb mobile phone theft and eliminate telecommunications equipment fraud as well enhance security and protect mobile users’ data to boost telecom services in Liberia.
