Salayea City, Salayea District, Lofa County |April 01,2026|Students from Lofa County studying at Cuttington University are calling attention to what they describe as a serious lack of support from the county’s legislative caucus, particularly in the area of scholarships and financial assistance.
The concerns were raised by the Lofa County University Students Association at Cuttington University, which says repeated appeals to lawmakers for educational support have yielded no positive response.
Speaking to reporters in Salayea District, the association’s president, Joe Tarblo, said several efforts have been made to engage members of the Lofa County Legislative Caucus, but those attempts have so far been unsuccessful.
According to Tarblo, the situation has become increasingly difficult for many students, especially following the cancellation of USAID scholarship support, which had previously helped some of them remain in school.
He further pointed to a recent legislative report delivered by Representative Augustine Chiewolo, noting that it reportedly made no mention of scholarship opportunities or direct support for students from the county.
Tarblo also claimed that when the student body approached leaders of the caucus for intervention, they were informed that financial limitations had made it difficult for the caucus to extend support. He said some students were instead encouraged to consider transferring to public universities.
However, Tarblo noted that many affected students are unwilling to make such a move, citing concerns over delayed academic calendars and prolonged graduation timelines at some public institutions.
The student leader is now calling on the Lofa County Legislative Caucus to urgently intervene and provide assistance to struggling students whose academic future remains uncertain.
For many of these students, the appeal is not only about financial aid, but also about ensuring that young people from Lofa County are given a fair opportunity to complete their education and contribute meaningfully to national development.
