Grand Kru County, Liberia |April 01, 2026|Residents of Grand Kru County are facing mounting challenges as the Chengbetee Bridge, a crucial link connecting Grand Kru and Sinoe Counties, remains severely damaged and impassable. The bridge’s collapse is affecting daily life, trade, and safety across the region.
Local sources report that vehicles—including cars, motorcycles, and trucks—can no longer cross the bridge. Residents and traders are now forced to use makeshift floaters to transport goods and people, a risky practice that endangers women, children, and the elderly.
“The bridge is not just a route; it is a lifeline connecting communities,” said Nelson S. Swen, a Gblebo City native and student leader at William V.S. Tubman University. “Without it, people struggle to reach markets, schools, and health facilities. Lives are at risk every day.”
The damaged bridge has also slowed trade and disrupted economic activity between Grand Kru and Sinoe Counties.
Farmers and traders face delays and increased costs, reducing their income and limiting the flow of goods in local markets.
Local business operators warn that prolonged inaccessibility could have lasting economic consequences for the region.
Community leaders are now appealing to the Government of Liberia and Grand Kru County authorities to take urgent action to repair or reconstruct the bridge.
They emphasize that restoring the Chengbetee Bridge will improve safety, revive trade, and restore regional connectivity, benefiting thousands of residents across both counties.
Residents remain hopeful for swift government intervention, recognizing the bridge as a vital infrastructure asset that supports commerce, education, healthcare access, and overall community well-being.
