Kakata City, Margibi County |April 14, 2026 |In a groundbreaking move, the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) has installed the country’s first ‘School Connect’ Internet facility at BWI in Kakata, Margibi County at the weekend.

This initiative aims to bridge the digital divide and provide students with access to quality internet, putting them on par with their global peers.

LTA Chairperson Clarence K. Massaquoi announced that 155 more high-powered installations will be rolled out across public high schools nationwide, ensuring students have reliable internet access for learning and research.

This project is part of the LTA’s Universal Access Program, which supports the expansion of telecommunications infrastructure in underserved areas as well as community gathering points.

The ‘School Connect’ initiative aligns with President Joseph N. Boakai’s vision to empower Liberian youth through information and communication technology (ICT).

The LTA has partnered with Starlink Liberia LLC to provide high-speed satellite internet to 156 public senior high schools, valued at over $160,000.

Education Minister Jarso Maley Jallah emphasized that this project marks a significant shift from expanding school access to ensuring effective teaching and learning.

The government aims to transform Liberia’s education system, making it more technology-driven and globally competitive.

The implementation timeline for Liberia’s School Connect Internet facility is ongoing, with the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) announcing a nationwide initiative to provide internet connectivity to 156 public schools.

The plan includes a one-year fully funded internet subscription to beneficiary schools, marking a significant step toward bridging the country’s digital divide.
