‎Zwedru City, Grand Gedeh |April 14, 2026|The Liberia National Police (LNP) women and children division has issued a stern warning to men across Grand Gedeh County following a dramatic surge in persistent non-support cases since the start of 2026.

‎The Women and Children Protection Division reported a troubling trend of men abandoning their partners and children, leaving women and young girls to bear the financial and emotional brunt of broken households.

‎According to Inspector Othello T. Saygbe, the detachment has been inundated with reports of men failing to provide basic necessities for their dependents.

‎The Inspector noted that many of these cases involve boyfriends who disappear or refuse to provide support after fathering children or establishing domestic ties.

‎”If you know you cannot support a woman, do not engage her,” Inspector Saygbe cautioned. “We are seeing too many cases of abandonment that leave vulnerable citizens in dire straits.”

Police patrol bikes stationed at headquarters.

‎The LNP is urging men to immediately desist from these acts of neglect.

‎Inspector Saygbe emphasized that the police will no longer tolerate the persistent non-support culture that is currently straining the county’s social fabric.

‎He advised men to be responsible for their actions or face the legal consequences of their negligence.

‎While the rise in non-support is a cause for concern, the LNP highlighted a significant victory in other areas of public safety including incidents of sexual assault have seen a dramatic reduction across the county.

‎Authorities praised the general public for a heightened level of law abiding behavior.

‎Despite the progress in curbing violent crime, Inspector Saygbe concluded by reminding all citizens that financial responsibility is a legal obligation, calling on every resident to remain law-abiding and uphold their family duties to maintain the county’s stability.

If the missing financial records are not just bureaucratic negligence but a deliberate cover‑up, could the funds be funnelled to an undisclosed militia or political faction? What mechanisms would allow such a scheme to evade both local and international auditors, and what does this suggest about the effectiveness of current aid oversight?
