Kinjor Town, Grand Cape Mount |April 27, 2026|Senator Dabah Varpilah of Grand Cape Mount County on Friday, April 25, 2026, concluded a one-day town hall meeting with women from Kinjor and surrounding communities.
Speaking at the Kinjor Town Hall, Sen. Varpilah said the consultative forum was intended to give women a platform to voice concerns affecting their communities and to deepen their understanding of the India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA) supported project.
The senator outlined that discussions focused on the project’s objectives and expected benefits, the current state of women’s political participation and representation in Liberia, electoral legal reform, Temporary Special Measures, and options to strengthen women’s representation, including a mandatory gender quota.
She noted that the project is supported by the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation with funding from UN Women.

During the forum, participants highlighted numerous challenges facing women in the area. Speaking on behalf of Kinjor women, the Youth Chair Lady Madam Hawa Swaray, cited poor sanitation, lack of safe drinking water, limited electricity, inadequate skills training, lack of women’s empowerment opportunities in the mining sector (BMMC), and above all the absence of vocational training center for practical education.
Madam Swaray further stated that the health system in Kinjor remains poor, with the lone clinic in the area experiencing constant shortage of essential medication.
In conclusion, Senator Vapilah thanked the women and youth of Kinjor for their presence and the healthy exchange. She promised to look into their concerns, shared with relevant concerned entities including both the government and Bea Mountain Mining Company among others.
