The Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency in River Gee County has stepped up efforts to fight illegal drugs following the arrest of two suspected traffickers during anti-drug operations carried out between May 8 and May 10, 2026.
The operations were led by County Commander Bill M. Cooper Jr. as part of the agency’s nationwide campaign to reduce drug trafficking and substance abuse in local communities.
According to the agency, 34-year-old Emmanuel Blawon was arrested in Fish Town after officers allegedly found 20 scripts of Tramadol in his possession.
Authorities estimated the street value of the seized Tramadol at around L$140,000. Officials described the seizure as one of the county’s major recent drug interceptions.
In another operation carried out in Tienpo Nyonken, officers arrested 20-year-old Fred S. Barwee after he was allegedly found with kush, 15 wraps of marijuana, and one Tramadol pill.
The substances seized during the second operation were valued at approximately L$4,200. Combined, the total street value of all drugs confiscated during the weekend operations was estimated at L$144,200.
LDEA officials confirmed that both suspects are currently in custody and will be sent to the Fish Town City Magisterial Court for prosecution under Liberia’s drug laws.
Following the arrests, Commander Cooper said the agency remains focused on protecting communities from the harmful effects of illegal drugs.
“The LDEA remains committed to protecting communities from the dangers associated with illegal drugs and substance abuse,” he stated.
He added, “We will continue pursuing individuals involved in drug trafficking and related criminal activities.”
He also encouraged residents to work with law enforcement by reporting suspicious drug-related activities in their communities.
Authorities say the recent arrests highlight the agency’s ongoing efforts to reduce the spread of dangerous substances such as Tramadol, kush, and marijuana, especially among young people.
The LDEA noted that regular intelligence-led operations will continue across Liberia to help create safer and healthier communities.
