Kolba City, Kolahun District…In a significant move to enhance public health and sanitation, the Kolba City Corporation has commenced comprehensive sanitary inspections across various communities within the city. This initiative aims to address the pressing issues of hygiene and sanitation problems in the city, officials of the city corporation have said.

A statement from the city corporation said residents found in violation of sanitation rules will receive warning letters, mandating them to clean their respective premises within seven days. Additionally, individuals residing in dilapidated structures, particularly those with unkept bathrooms and poor sanitary facilities, are strongly advised to rehabilitate or demolish these facilities within a 90-day period.

As a key component of this sanitary initiative, the Kolba City Corporation is taking active steps to combat Open Defecation (OD), a prevalent issue in many rural communities. The corporation is promoting the use of modern sanitation solutions, such as the Sato Camoes, which the city corporation says it is affordable at a lower cost. The corporation believes that by encouraging residents to improve their toilet facilities, the health and wellbeing of the community can be significantly enhanced.

City Mayor Caroline M. Momoh has emphasized the importance of maintaining sanitary conditions in the city. She urged owners of vacant lots/lands to develop those lands in keeping with city ordinance. Neglected vacant lots/lands pose a considerable risk to public health, she stated. “We must work together to clean and maintain our environment for the benefit of all residents.”

Meanwhile, citizens of Kolba have overwhelmingly expressed their support to the sanitation program. Many residents have welcomed the Mayor’s approach to clean city, praising the corporation for its commitment to improving the city’s ordinance.

Kolba City is the headquarter of Kolahun District in Lofa County. It is approximately 200 kilometers away from Monrovia. Its population as of 2008 national census was 60,557 inhabitants. Kolba City is represented at the National Legislature by Momo Siafa Kpoto.
