What started as a kind of public gossips cum outcry has now manifested into reality with information the Rural Reporters News Network, that Commerce Minister Amin Modad has resigned from the ruling Unity Party led Rescue Mission administration of His Excellency Joseph Boakai administration.

According to information available to Rural Reporters News Network, Hon. Amin Modad resignation stemmed from his controversial purchase of a luxury SUV that reportedly cost 90,000 USD.

Meanwhile, Spoon FM/TV early Wednesday morning reported from the Commerce Ministry that,Minister Modad bids farewell to his staff and thereafter, tendered in his resignation amid on going public outcry cum condemnation of his decision to purchase a luxurious SUV under the guise of getting a car to conduct official government business.

It can be recalled that the current debacle commenced when it was revealed that Minister Modad had approved the purchase of a luxury SUV for official use, funded by the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) from its Customs Capacity Building Fund.

This development unfortunately led to back and forth between the Ministry of Commerce and the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) with each party attempting to distance itself from taking responsibility for the purchase of the vehicle.

Now that the Commerce Minister has finally resigned, the questions on the lips of many abound. Will the brouhaha brought about the vehicle end now? Is he going to be the only to resign or others are going to follow? Did he willingly resign or was pressured to do so? Given that this whole case smacked of bribery, what happens now to the entity that stands accused of being the briber in this case MedTech Scientific Ltd.? Will their consultancy contract with the Government of Liberia be renewed since in fact, they have allegedly been caught violating Liberian laws as far as bribery is concerned.

These and many more questions will yearn for answers in the coming days as President Boakai begin to closely watch his cabinet with public pressure mounting on the regime to demonstrate its capacity in delivering on the many promises made during the runoff election that brought her to power last year.
