Monrovia-December 19, 2024- The Office of the National Peace Ambassador categorically condemns all forms of physical violence experienced on December 17, 2024 involving protesters and the Liberia National Police, resulting into scores of injured protestors and officers of the Liberia National Police on Capitol Hill.
The office, through its acting Ambassador Barbara Jacques-Menyongai, said violence in any form have no space, noting that Liberians have decided to champion the path of sustainable peace, stability, and security.
The acting Ambassador in reference to the1986 Constitution quoting Article 17 states “The rights to peaceful assembly and association,” protestors are covered under said rights and are urged to conduct themselves peacefully and abide by said provision.
Nonetheless, the National Peacebuilding Ambassador said it is incumbent upon every citizen and residents within the confines of Liberia to protect and nurture the fragile peace which all Liberians continue to enjoy.
“However, the act of violence has no space in our growing democracy which encompasses the principles of rule of law to address any issue or grievance,” her statement highlighted.
Meanwhile, the office of the National Peace Ambassador calling on all Liberians to protect the hard-earned peace and employ the most peaceful means to channel their grievances through orderly and peaceable manner.
“Let it be crystal clear to all Liberians that the ultimate objective of Liberia’s advancement depends on the collective sustainability of peace as it is everybody’s business to safeguard this continual peace, security, and stability” she asserted.
The Liberia Peacebuilding Office (PBO) supports the Government of Liberia’s peace and reconciliation efforts by developing and implementing peace programs. The PBO helps the government develop and implement peace and reconciliation programs as well as strengthens local peace mechanisms among others and it is directly under the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
