We have hand pumps in the various towns but everything had spoiled; noted a community resident from lower Twah, District #2 in Sinoe County.

The Town Chief of Lower Twah, John Dapaye said creeks/streams are now the only sources of water for the community, adding residents are compelled to fetch from creek/steam waters for household usage which include drinking, washing and cooking. This, chief Dapaye said is not only unique to the dry season; it also happens during the rainy season, acknowledging the risk associated with drinking creek water.

He disclosed that the hand pumps were constructed by private organizations between 2017 and 20218 but in less than five years, the pumps started giving problems. Repair/maintenance work have been the sole responsibility of the community members, but said effort, chief Dapaye said, is not sustainable, leaving the matter beyond their control.

“In as much as the community tried at times to raise money to repair the hand pumps. yet still the pumps are all spoiled beyond their control of repairing; adding that its more than three years since they have been getting water from the crake”, town chief Dapaye lamented.

He furthered disclosed that Twah community does not have any nearby health facilitate besides the one located in Seethon Duyean, where they have to walk for two hours to seek medical attention.

Also, in Buah Geeken old town, in Grand Kru County, residents have no means of getting save drinking water. According to our reporter, there is only one hand pump in the Buah Geeken old town, which has about 2000 inhabitants.
