Liberia,Monrovia City-Sunday, March 23, 2025 – Deputy Internal Affairs Minister for Research and Development Planning, Minister Edward K  Mulbah has underscored the crucial importance in strengthening the capacities of local government officials nationwide,  said this will enhance the full development and decentralization drive in keeping with government ARREST Agenda locally.

Minister Mulbah made the statement Thursday, March 20, 2025 in Gbarngba, Bong County when MIA in partnership with NAYMOTE organized an impactful forum for local leaders from Montserrado, Nimba, and Grand Bassa Counties respectively.

The MIA Deputy Minister then set the stage for engaging discussions centered around the Local Government Act (LGA) and its transformative potential.

In Liberia, local government is structured hierarchically, with 15 counties as the first-level administrative divisions, subdivided into 68 districts, then into chiefdoms, clans, and finally towns or villages, all overseen by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

This full-day session brought together dedicated officials committed to improving the quality of life in their counties.

For his part, NAYMOTE  Executive Director Eddie Jarwolo passionately reinforced the idea that the true strength of every nation lies in empowering  local government structures.

NAYMOTE-PADD Executive Director ,Eddie Jawolo speaks during the forum.

Jarwolo highlighted that this initiative is a cornerstone of the Democracy Advancement Program (DAP), representing a significant step toward the effective implementation of laws and fostering meaningful improvements in Liberia.

Naymote Partners for Democratic Development promotes citizens’ understanding of democratic processes and the long-term benefits of their participation in these processes. Established in 2001 by students’ leaders and activists, the institution has been one of the leading grassroots organizations promoting democracy, peacebuilding, human rights, and civic engagement in Liberia.
