90 Women from Mother Clubs Participate in Capacity Building Training in Grand Kru County

Barclayville City, Grand Kru County-Tuesday, April 29, 2025-At least 90 women representing Mother Clubs from nine elected communities recently participated in four-day capacity building training organized by the Liberia National Red Cross Society’s Grand Kru Chapter, an empowering initiative aimed at improving public health and sanitation practices in Grand Kru County.

The training, which focused on the roles and responsibilities of community leaders in promoting awareness on personal hygiene and sanitation, directly impacts 15 communities across three districts: Sasstown District, Barclayville District, and Trehn District; encompassed a variety of topics, including best practices for hygiene, the importance of sanitation, and strategies for effective community engagement.

Participants were equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to educate their communities on critical health issues, with an emphasis on preventing diseases that can arise from poor sanitation and hygiene practices.

Field Officer George Gray, at the Liberia National Red Cross Society Grand Kru Chapter who led the initiative, elaborated on the objectives of the training. “Our goal is to empower these women, who are pivotal in their communities, to take the lead in raising awareness about personal hygiene and sanitation. We are not only improving health outcomes but also fostering a culture of cleanliness and responsibility within the communities,” Gray explained.

George Gray iterated the Red Cross’s commitment to community development and health education. “The success of this initiative hinges on strong community leadership. The women who participated in this training will serve as agents of change in their respective communities, encouraging others to adopt better hygiene practices and understand the significance of sanitation.”

According to George Gray, with continued efforts and support, the Red Cross aims to strengthen community resilience and promote a culture of health that benefits all residents, paving the way for a brighter, healthier future.

During the training, participants expressed their enthusiasm and appreciation for the training, noting the potential impact on their communities. “We have learned so much about how we can better supports our families and neighbors in maintaining hygiene standards,” said Pauline Koffa. “This knowledge is essential, and we are excited to share it with everyone back home.”

As the women from Mother Clubs return to their communities, they are expected to utilize the skills and knowledge gained to enhance awareness of hygiene and sanitation, ultimately contributing to healthier environments in Grand Kru County.
