Barclayville City, Grand Kru County-May 16,2025-At least 216 candidates commenced sitting on Thursday, May 15, 2025 to participate in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), which is taking place at four designated centers within Grand Kru County.

According to Grand Kru County Education Officer, one hundred- thirty-five males and eighty-one females candidates will be sitting this year 2025 exams; summing the total numbers of candidates to 216 across the seven high schools in the county.

Josiah Sloh Nagbe, the Grand Kru County Education Officer, has been at the forefront of initiatives aimed at increasing the number of girls participating in the WASSCE, which has since been his preoccupation with key focus on encouraging parents to support their daughters’ education. In effect, it seems, this message has resonated well across the county leading to a notable rise in the number of female candidates. “We are committed to ensuring that every child, regardless of gender, has equal access to quality education. Boosting female enrollment is a priority for us,” Negba stated during a recent press conference.

He named Barclayville central high school to accommodate the Sass-town high school, the J. J Dickson United Methodist high school, and P.G Wolloh high school; while Stanford Dennis, Buah, and the Garraway central high schools remain to their respective campuses to write the exams.

Josiah Sloh Nagbe mentioned that the school system has faced its share of educational challenges over the years, but the recent initiatives to promote female education and the positive appointments within the education sector signal a hopeful trajectory for the future of academic achievement in Grand Kru County.
