River Gee County –Tuesday, May 20, 2025 – In a proactive effort to boost agricultural productivity and assist local farmers in River Gee, the County Agricultural Officer Jasper Sheriff Tweh has launched a monitoring initiative aimed at evaluating and enhancing farming practices in River Gee County.

The initiative, which commenced in early April 2025, focuses on both cooperative and individual farmers across the six agricultural districts of River Gee, including; Gbeapo, Tienpo, Chedepo, Webbo, Potupo, and Sarbo respectively.

In an interview with our reporter, the Agriculture Coordinator explained that the initiative is intended to offer essential guidance and technical support to farmers dealing with various challenges in the agricultural sector.

Tweh noted that his monitoring has revealed issues such as limited access to modern farming methods, insufficient tools, and the adverse effects of climate change which is significantly affecting local farmers.

He highlighted that the initiative emphasized crop health, soil management, pest control, and sustainable farming practices.

The County Agricultural Officer, Tweh stressed the need to support local farmers, asserting “Our farmers are the backbone of our economy, and it is our responsibility to ensure they have the tools and knowledge needed to succeed. This monitoring initiative will help us identify their needs and deliver customized support to boost their productivity.”

The monitoring includes farm visits aimed at educating farmers about best practices and innovative agricultural techniques. Upon completion, the initiative will also seek to secure essential resources such as seeds, fertilizers, and equipment to enhance crop yields.

Local farmer Marcus Gray, a member of the Theobroma Cacao farming group in Sarbo Sweaken, expressed optimism about the initiative, stating, “We have been facing numerous challenges in our farming practices, and this monitoring program gives us hope. With the right support, we can improve our yields and contribute more to our community and the economy.”

The Coordinator’s visits also facilitate discussions among farmers regarding the importance of sustainable agriculture and adapting to changing environmental conditions.

As the monitoring initiative progresses, the County Agricultural Officer is dedicated to promoting collaboration among farmers, government agencies, and NGOs to strengthen the agricultural sector in River Gee County.

The three-month initiative part of the County Coordinator’s responsibilities is expected to run from April to June 2025, with adjustments to be made based on feedback from the farming community.

The County Agricultural Officer has encouraged all farmers in the region to actively engage and benefit from the knowledge shared during this monitoring initiative.
