River Gee County Thursday, June 5, 2025– Residents of Fish Town in River Gee County are expressing serious concerns regarding the condition of the county’s sport pitch there.

After a recent playoff match in the 3rd Division League held in Fish-Town, it has become evident that the playing area is unsuitable for use during the rainy season due to over flooding of the pitch.

According to our correspondent in the area, players usually struggle to control the ball amid heavy mud and flooding, stalling the free flow of the game.

Local residents are urging sporting and county authorities to act promptly against the company contracted to construct the pitch to ensure the timely completion of the sports facility.

More flood action due to heavy downpour of rainfall.

The sports complex in River Gee County was awarded to CHICO, a Chinese construction company in 2023 for a six-month contract to do the work. It has long since exceeded its duration as the project remains unfinished.

Originally aimed at improving local sports infrastructure, the project has experienced too much delays, leading to the facility being left neglected.

In response, Marcus Saylee Queeneh, the Human Resources Manager of China Henan International Cooperation Group Co., Ltd. (CHICO), stated that the company is ready to complete the project but will only resume work once the county settles an outstanding payment of $60,000 USD.

Plans are being made to speak with both former and current local leaders of River Gee County regarding the reported outstanding amount of $60,000.00 needed to finish the County Sports Stadium.
