River Gee County – Friday, June 13, 2025 – Superintendent Mike Swengbe of River Gee County has expressed deep sympathy to those affected by the recent flooding in Gbeapo Kaweaken.

Located, approximately 20 kilometers from the county seat, Fish-Town, Gbeapo Kanweaken serves as the commercial center of River Gee County.

Swengbe acknowledged the significant destruction caused by the floods and pledged that the local government would take swift action to address the aftermath of the disaster and implement strategies to reduce the risk of future flooding.

He stressed that the safety and welfare of the community’s residents are his primary concerns.

The Superintendent also mentioned that his administration is working alongside the CHICO Road Construction Company in the county to provide assistance and develop protective measures to shield the area from potential flooding.

Swengbe urged residents across the County to come together to support those affected by the flood in Gbeapo Kanweaken’s, highlighting the vital role of community solidarity during these difficult times.

On June 5, 2025, a severe flood devastated the commercial center of River Gee, displacing over twenty households and causing significant property damage.

A similar flooding event occurred on May 23, 2025, due to heavy rainfall, leaving many residents in central Fish-Town homeless and in urgent need of help.

Around five households were significantly impacted, including Esther Wilson, a 37-year-old single mother of four, who is facing major losses and urgently requires assistance.

Given the rising frequency of such disasters, there is an urgent necessity for county officials and environmental experts to implement measures aimed at preventing similar incidents in the future.
