Grand Kru County, Liberia-The Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA) Grand Kru County Detachment, has destroyed illicit drugs valued at over US43,000 United States Dollars. The disposal exercise took place during the celebration of World Drugs Day, which was held on June 26, 2025 in Barclayville, Grand Kru County.
The illegal substances which were confiscated during various operations include, Marijuana (164kilograms,) value at US$16,450, Kush (309.4, grams) value at $6,188, Heroin (291.3grams) US$13,108.5, Cocaine (127.3grams) value US$6874.2 and precursor amounting (262grams) value US$786. County officials said the disposal exercise underscores the LDEA’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and abuse within the county,
LDEA’S County’s Commander, Michael Jipply reaffirmed the agency unwavering commitment to maintain law and order by tackling the persistent issues of drug trafficking and substance abuse.
He said these operations are part of a broader strategy aimed at curbing the growing drug trade that poses significant risks to well-being of young people. “Today’s destruction signifies our firm stance against drugs and our dedication to creating a healthier environment for our citizens,” Commander Jipply stated during the event.
The LDEA Commander emphasized the need for continued collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the community to effectively combat drug-related crimes. He urged local citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the authorities. “We cannot fight this battle alone; the community’s involvement is crucial. Together, we can create a safer environment for our children and future generations,” he added.
The LDEA has since ramped up its efforts in various schools, focusing not only on enforcement but also on education and prevention initiatives to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse.
Jipply, in his statement, maintained that the LDEA Grand Kru Detachment remains committed to ensuring that drug-related activities are met with harsh penalties and that those affected by drug abuse receive the support they need.
According to him, as the fight against illegal drugs continues, the LDEA’s actions serve as a beacon of hope for many in Grand Kru County and across Liberia, reaffirming the nation’s commitment to a drug-free society.
