A major health facility, the Gbeapo Comprehensive Health Center in River Gee County is currently being refurbished, as part of plans by the Health Team, to address growing health needs in that part of the country.

The infrastructural development project of the health facility, which is a pivotal move to improve healthcare services in the Gbeapo Statutory District, is targeting the upgrading of the facility’s overall condition.

The refurbishment effort is part of the River Gee County Health Team’s continued commitment to effectively address the health needs of citizens and residents of the District.

The Gbeapo Comprehensive Health Center, located in River Gee’s commercial hub of Gbeapo Kanweaken, 20 kilometers from the county’s capital, Fish Town, serves the entire Gbeapo health district including Tienpo and Chedepo health districts.

The upgrading process has begun with the repainting of the main building housing the health center, and its nurses’ quarters.

These improvements reflect the health staff’s commitment not only to enhance the facility’s medical operations but also to create a more welcoming and supportive environment for patients and healthcare providers alike.

In a recent interview, Medical Director, B.Z. Milton Nyema expressed gratitude to the Government of Liberia (GoL) and the Ministry of Health for continued support.

“The Comprehensive Health Center receives financial assistance from the Liberian government quarterly, which enables us to implement necessary improvements and maintain health standards at our facility,” Nyema disclosed.

He revealed the center’s growing surgical capabilities, noting, “We have recently begun performing both major and minor surgeries. To date, we’ve conducted over ten surgical procedures including cesarean sections, treatment for delivery complications, and hernia repairs.”

The advancement in surgical services at the health center has greatly benefited residents of nearby communities, alleviating the need for them to travel long distances for essential medical care.

Nyema observed an increase in visits from residents of the district and nearby areas, saying, “People are actively seeking care and treatment.”

He noted the critical role the health center plays in River Gee’s commercial bub, however, he pointed out the ongoing challenges, especially in staff shortage.

As the sole physician at the center, Nyema is pleading for an increase in healthcare professionals to meet the growing patient demand at the health facility.

“I urge the Ministry of Health and the Liberian government to consider sending more healthcare workers to support us. I am dedicated to providing the best care possible, but my resources are limited,” he emphasized.

Despite these challenges, upgrading of Gbeapo Health Center marks a significant advancement in healthcare delivery within River Gee County.

With ongoing collaboration between the community and health officials, there is hope for further progress that will enhance both the infrastructure and quality of healthcare services available to the population.

The commitment of the health center staff, along with government support, is essential for fostering a healthier future for the community and underscores the need for continued government assistance.
