Lofa: Zorzor authorities, Curran Hospital launch joint road rehabilitation project

In a major move to improve healthcare access in Lofa County, the Zorzor City Corporation is partnering with the administration of the Curran Lutheran Hospital to carry out rehabilitation works on the main road leading to the hospital.

The initiative, jointly spearheaded by Zorzor City Mayor Nayanquoi Dolo and Curran Hospital’s administrator Sumo Woyea, aims to repair critical portions of the road that have long hampered ambulance services and delayed emergency responses.

Mayor Dolo, describing the road project as a personal priority, emphasized the risks patients face due to the poor condition of the route.

“This road is close to my heart. Ambulances are struggling to navigate, and that puts lives in danger,” Mayor Dolo emphasized.

He noted that the first phase of rehabilitation works on the dilapidated road involves clearing makeshift structures including roadside kitchens along the route, to make way for heavy machinery expected to begin broader repair works soon.

For his part, Curran Hospital administrator Sumo Woyea expressed deep appreciation to Mayor Dolo and the city government for their collaboration, indicating that the absence of proper drainage systems had significantly contributed to the road’s deterioration.

“We are committed to playing our part. Curran Hospital will supply fuel for the equipment, but we are appealing to humanitarian organizations and well-meaning individuals for additional support, especially in providing heavy-duty road machinery,” Woyea added.

The road rehabilitation project has been described by many as a critical step toward strengthening healthcare delivery in rural Lofa County, where poor infrastructure continues to be a major challenge.
