Voinjama, Lofa County – July 27, 2025 – In celebration of Liberia’s Independence Day, three patients at Tellewoyan Memorial Hospital received financial support from Our Planet Safety and Relief Action (OPSRA), a U.S.-based nonprofit organization.

Each patient received a cash donation of USD $35.00, bringing unexpected joy amid their hospital stay. The support came on the eve of July 26, Liberia’s Independence Day, a time traditionally marked by festivities.

According to Mr. Francis Woiwor, OPSRA’s Program Director in Lofa County, the gesture was intended to show solidarity with those in vulnerable conditions during the national holiday.

The beneficiaries, who chose to remain anonymous, expressed surprise and gratitude.

“We are on our sickbeds, so for an organization to identify with us at this time is a true surprise. We are deeply thankful,” said one patient on behalf of the group.

Founded in 2021 by a humanitarian-minded Liberian woman, OPSRA is led by Chief Executive Officer Madam Veronica, who prefers to be referred to by her first name only. Based in the United States, she stated that the organization is also conducting similar outreach in Montserrado County and plans to expand to other parts of Liberia in the coming months.
