Zorzor City-Thursday, August 7, 2025-The Zorzor General Market has taken the first small step towards solving its long-standing roof crisis, after receiving one bundle of zinc sheets and a supply of roofing nails. The donation marks the beginning of an effort to repair the badly leaking roof of the market’s second building — a problem that has plagued vendors for years, especially during the rainy season.

Market Superintendent Madam Varbah Johnson said the situation has been a major worry for sellers who are often forced to trade in wet and unsafe conditions.

“We decided to start somewhere,” she explained, noting that during President Joseph N. Boakai’s recent visit, the market received fifteen thousand Liberian dollars, which the leadership chose to invest in roofing repairs.

However, she stressed that the materials so far are far from enough to complete the work. Madam Johnson is appealing to the public, local authorities, and humanitarian organizations to step in with more roofing supplies and financial assistance.

Currently, the second building remains in poor shape, leaving dozens of traders exposed to rain, wind, and harsh sun. Market leaders say a full renovation is urgently needed to protect livelihoods and provide a safe, dignified space for small business owners and vendors in Zorzor.
