Buutuo Town, Nimba County-[August 12, 2025] – General Police Commander ACP Larmie Menden of Nimba County police detachment has confirmed the arrest of two local Journalists found with a single-barrel gun in District 5, Nimba County.

In a statement to reporters at the Buutuo Police Detail, Menden revealed that the journalists, Chris Sehkar, a chaser at Radio BKS, and Tarkpor Sehwah, also from the same station, were detained by citizens who had been observing their suspicious behavior since the early hours of the election.

The Nimba County Police Commander further explained that a standoff occurred between the two journalists and a group of citizens before the Emergency Response Unit of the Liberia National Police arrived to defuse the situation.

Menden reported that the journalists have been transferred to the Bahn Police Detail for their protection, while the firearm is currently in possession of the police for further examination.

He urged residents to remain calm and continue voting peacefully, assuring them that the police are taking all necessary measures to ensure the smooth conduct of the ongoing Representative By-election.

Additional information from local sources indicates that Tarkpor Sehwah is currently the manager of the Benjamin Karmon Sehkar Radio station in Buutuo Town.

The two journalists were apprehended between Gormaplay and Bluntuo Town, where they were found with the firearm in a bag while enroute to visit a polling precinct.

Since the polling centers opened earlier that day, Chris and Tarkpor had been seen traveling to various voting locations.

Meanwhile, a third individual who was with them on a motorcycle, identified as Junior Markar, remains at large as police continue their search for him.

Further details are expected to emerge as the police investigate the reasons behind their possession of the firearm.
