Grand Kru County, Liberia –Tuesday, August 12,2025-The Liberia National Red Cross Society has begun the construction of at least 300 latrine facilities across 15 Communities, and the rehabilitation of several hand pumps facilities aimed at enhancing sanitation in Grand Kru County.

Field Officer George Gray, who is overseeing the project, stressed the importance of this initiative during an interview in Barclayville. “Access to proper sanitation is vital for the health and well-being of any community,” Gray stated.

According to the Red Cross Field Officer in Grand Kru County, by providing the 20 latrines to each of the targeted communities, Red Cross Liberia is not only addressing immediate health concerns but is also contributing to the broader goal of fostering a cleaner and safer environment.

The Red Cross Field Officer Gary described the initiative as significant step towards improving public health and hygiene in the county as a means of buttressing national government effort, which has been grappling with sanitation challenges.

He pointed out that each community will receive 20 latrine facilities that are designed to promote hygiene and reduce the risk of waterborne diseases.

George Gray disclosed that the project is particularly crucial in light of ongoing public health challenges faced by rural areas in Liberia, adding that, “improving sanitation is a key factor in preventing diseases that arise from inadequate waste management.” “We are hopeful that these facilities will lead to a significant reduction in health issues related to poor sanitation.”

According the George Gray, the Liberia National Red Cross is committed to engaging with beneficiaries’ communities to ensure that the facilities are not only built, but also maintained and used effectively.

For their part, residents of the affected communities have expressed their gratitude for the initiative, recognizing the positive impact it will have on their daily lives.

According to them, the construction of the 300 latrine facilities by the Liberia National Red Cross is a commendable initiative that underscores the importance of sanitation in promoting community health.

Meanwhile, the Liberia National Red Cross has been actively working on various humanitarian projects across the country, and this latrine construction initiative is part of its broader mission to enhance the quality of life in those underserved communities.

The communities set to benefit from this project include Kayken Community, Picnicess, Ylatwen, Piddy, Nyanbo, Jlaklonken, Small-Suehn-Gbuken, Gblaborken, Karwalaken, Kwaken, Trehn Wutuken, Kladia, Nrokwia, Sloyen, and Dayokpo.
