Monrovia, Liberia – Saturday, August 16, 2025 – On August 9, 2025, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Liberia, officially inaugurated and dedicated Camp Jones in Margibi County and Camp Grant in Sanniquellie, Nimba County respectively.

The ceremony, held in Sanniquellie City, Nimba County, attracted a large audience from both Margibi and Nimba counties.

During the inauguration speech, President Boakai highlighted the significance of these projects as pivotal advancements in Liberia’s quest for a safer and more secure future for its military personnel, who play a crucial role in maintaining national defense.

He praised the Ministry of National Defense and the Armed Forces of Liberia for their hard work and dedication in realizing this initiative. Additionally, he expressed gratitude to the communities of Kakata and Sanniquellie for their patience and support throughout the renovation processes.

The President emphasized that Armed Forces personnel have long been dedicated to safeguarding Liberia’s hard-won peace and territorial sovereignty; often facing challenges related to overcrowding and inadequate facilities.

He reiterated that the new barracks offer living and working environments that honor the soldiers’ service and show the respect that his administration and the nation have for them.

President Boakai noted that the renovations were funded by the Government of Liberia, signaling a commitment to appreciating the sacrifices of uniformed personnel.

“I urge you to embrace these barracks as your own. Maintain them with dignity. Adhere to the highest standards of professionalism. Allow these spaces to foster unity, improve your training, and strengthen your commitment to protecting the Liberian people and our democratic values,” he advised the military personnel.

Nimba County Superintendent Madam Meapeh Kou Gono Glay welcomed President Boakai and his team, expressing gratitude for his visit. She highlighted the importance of the military barracks in fostering resilience and progress within the community.

Madam Glay noted that military presence could enhance infrastructure and education in the region, further empowering Nimba’s residents. She described the project not only as new structures but as a symbol of transformation, unity, and pride in the nation. “It underscores our protection, affirming that the strength of Liberian state is present, and reinforces our relationship with the national army,” she stated.

Minister of National Defense, Honorable Geraldine J. George, addressed the attendees, emphasizing that the occasion marks more than just the opening of a camp; it signifies renewal, resilience, and national solidarity.

She stated that these facilities represent the government’s commitment to reinforcing Liberia’s security framework, decentralizing military capacities, and building a disciplined, professional, and community-oriented military.

She articulated that the inauguration of Camp Grant fulfills a vision where each county can feel the protective presence of the national army.

However, she urged military personnel to exemplify high levels of professionalism in their service to the people of Margibi and Nimba counties and encouraged local communities to embrace the army.

Revitalizing the barracks is crucial for improving the quality of life for military families. Enhanced living conditions can boost morale, foster a sense of security and belonging, and contribute to better overall well-being and retention rates among personnel.
