    NaFAA’s Acting Boss Arrives in Ghana to Spearhead Preparations for 16th FCWC Conference of Ministers

    Tema, Ghana -August 30, 2025 – The Chairperson of the Fisheries Committee for the West Central Gulf of Guinea (FCWC) and Acting Director General of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) of Liberia, J. Cyrus Saygbe Sr., has arrived in Tema, Ghana, to initiate preparations for the 16th FCWC Conference of Ministers. The conference is scheduled to take place later this year in Lagos, Nigeria.

    Mr. Saygbe’s visit marks the beginning of a multi-phase preparation process for the conference, which aims to bring together fisheries ministers and senior officials from member states to discuss key policy issues, regional cooperation frameworks, and sustainable management strategies for fisheries and aquaculture.

    Commendation for FCWC Secretariat

    Upon arrival, Mr. Saygbe commended the FCWC Secretariat for its professionalism and dedication to advancing regional fisheries governance. He noted that the Secretariat’s work has been instrumental in sustaining collaboration among member states and attracting the confidence of development partners in the sub-region.

    The NaFAA Acting Director General was warmly received by the FCWC Secretary-General, Dr. Gaston Djihinto, who officially welcomed him on behalf of the organization. Dr. Djihinto lauded Liberia’s continued leadership and commitment under Mr. Saygbe’s chairmanship, emphasizing the importance of collective responsibility and cooperation in managing shared fisheries resources in the Gulf of Guinea.

    The 16th Conference of Ministers is expected to serve as a platform for strengthening partnerships with international development stakeholders supporting the blue economy agenda. The conference will provide an opportunity for member states to deliberate on key policy issues and develop strategies for sustainable fisheries and aquaculture management.
