Zuwulor Town, Lofa County –Wednesday, September 3, 2025- A devastating flood has swept through Zuwulor, a community situated between Konia and Zorzor in Lofa County, leaving residents homeless and fearful as the situation threatens to worsen.

At least five homes have already been destroyed after a nearby river overflowed its banks around 2:45pm on Sunday, sending torrents of water rushing into the community. Residents warn that if the rains continue, the destruction could increase drastically.

“If the situation continues, by 6 or 7 pm we may see at least eight to ten more houses collapse,” one concerned resident told this reporter.

Among those displaced is Mr. Flomo G. Mulbah, a government-assigned teacher at Zuwulor Public School. Mulbah, originally from Fissebu, had only returned to the town on Saturday to resume classes. Less than 24 hours later, his home was washed away.

“I managed to save a few of my belongings,” he said. “But I have no place to keep them. For tonight, I will sleep on the school campus.”

The human toll of the disaster is mounting. Madam Krubo, another victim, is still grieving the recent death of her daughter during childbirth at Curran Hospital. Now, she has lost her home to the flood.

“I don’t even know where to sleep tonight,” she lamented. “All of my household materials are under water. I’m asking the authorities and humanitarians to please help me.”

The disaster has sparked fears of disease outbreaks, food shortages, and further displacement if immediate interventions are not taken. With homes submerged and property destroyed, families are left vulnerable, exposed to cold nights, and at risk of illness.

Local authorities have yet to issue an official statement, but residents say urgent assistance is needed before the situation spirals out of control.

This is a developing story and will be regularly updated…
