Monrovia, Liberia – September 24, 2025: The Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), through its Taxpayer Services Division, has concluded an intensive eight-day tax education and stakeholder engagement campaign across Grand Cape Mount and Bomi Counties in western Liberia.

The initiative was designed to raise awareness, educate taxpayers, and strengthen compliance, with a focus on business owners, ordinary citizens, and other key stakeholders. During the engagements, discussions centered on taxpayers’ obligations, required taxes for small businesses, withholding tax on rent, business and personal income taxes, real property tax, tax clearance certificates, and business registration procedures.

The outreach covered several communities, ranging from Lofa Bridge Town to Kinjor in Grand Cape Mount County, and from Tubmanburg to Gbah-Jarkeh in Bomi County.

James B. Kokulo, LRA Manager for Banking Services and team lead for the campaign, reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to extending tax education across the country. He stressed that the outreach seeks to ensure taxpayers clearly understand their responsibilities.

“As a tax authority, it is our job to educate you, the taxpayers, about what to pay, when to pay, and where to pay,” Mr. Kokulo told business owners during a town hall meeting. “With this knowledge, you will be able to easily meet your obligations as business operators and citizens.”

He further emphasized the benefits of tax payments, noting that taxes directly contribute to national development. “When you pay your taxes, you are helping government to invest more in education, health, roads, and other vital areas,” he stated.

Stakeholders attending the sessions welcomed the initiative and expressed appreciation for the LRA’s direct engagement. They also called for more frequent tax education exercises to deepen knowledge and strengthen compliance.

“We want this meeting to happen often, so we can learn more about tax payment. The more we know, the better prepared we are to contribute our fair share to national development,” participants remarked.

The LRA views tax education as a critical pillar of domestic revenue mobilization and is working to expand awareness efforts nationwide. The Authority believes that by improving taxpayer understanding, compliance will increase, thereby boosting revenue growth and supporting Liberia’s development agenda. The outreach forms part of the LRA’s broader drive to push the country’s revenue collection toward the one-billion-dollar mark.
