Geneken, Wedabo District, Grand Kru County |March 23, 2026|Over the weekend, a white pick-up truck believed to be heavily loaded with goods and passengers overturned in Geneken on Saturday morning, leaving six people seriously injured and sparking renewed concerns about road safety in rural Grand Kru.

The accident was reported by motorcyclists to local authorities, prompting a swift response from officers of the Liberia National Police led by Fedisco D. Chea.

Upon reaching the scene, police met the driver, Emanuel Tamba, commonly known as “Falo,” who explained that he was traveling towards Barclayville when the vehicle suddenly somersaulted.

Preliminary information suggests the pick-up was carrying both passengers and a significant load of goods at the time of the incident—an increasingly common but risky practice on difficult road networks in the county and elsewhere in the country.

Six passengers sustained major injuries and were evacuated before police arrived. Authorities say the victims were initially taken to a nearby health facility in Grand Kru, with four later referred to the J.J. Dossen Hospital for advanced treatment.

The accident vehicle remains at the scene, badly damaged and unable to move.

While the exact cause of the crash remains under investigation, the Liberia National Police says it is looking into factors including overloading, road conditions, and possible driver-related issues.

The incident has once again highlighted the dangers associated with transporting passengers alongside heavy cargo, especially on narrow and poorly maintained roads in southeastern Liberia.
